Toyko Hy-Power HL-45B to Flex1500 Connector

Hi Everyone,

I got my feet wet in SDR by building KB9YIG's Softrock v9.0 Elec./Switched BPF RX, and Rocky software, and I love it!

I have a follow up question -- Just like W0VLL above - I'm also considering buying the Toyko Hy-Power HL-45B (45Watt Amp).

-Now, I've been a ham since 1977, but this will be my 1st Amplifier! So my question is -- What is the correct pin-to-pin wiring between the Flex1500 FlexWire Connector ---- and the THP HL-45B Amp ??

-I've downloaded the FlexWire Connector PinOut Diagram - and the HL-45B Manual. So, do I just make the following 2 wire connector below?? or Do I need to use some Relay and Diode combo?? - and If so, could anyone point me to an easy circuit to build that?

FlexWire Connector ------ THP HL-45B Connector
--------------------------------------------------------
Pin1 - Ground------------------------Pin3 - Ground
Pin3 - PTT Out(OpenDrain)-----------Pin2 - STBY (When Grounded, amp will become TX State)

Thanks so much!
-Dave, WB7QMR.

I had a THP HL-50B (now discontinued and replaced by the HL-45) when I owned an FT-817. They are a high quality piece of equipment.

I'm not sure this answer is complete...an amp is an amp...you put RF in and you get RF out. The Tokyo unit should work with any rig with about 5 watts out. The beauty of its design with the Yaesu FT-817 is that it has a cable that permits fully-automatic band-switching. I'm definitely not an expert on that unit, but I would imagine that it would work with anything if you're willing to do the switching manually. I would think that limiting sales of that amp to only '817 owners who want more power would be a pretty small pond....don't quote me 'cuz I might be all wrong!

Received my Flex 1500 2 days ago (July 7, 2010)  and had it connected and running 20 minutes later temporarily on a desktop PC using XP PRO.  I really like the "Pretty Betty" type console which has that "military" style look.  It will eventually be used with a laptop PC in the field along with a transverter (Elecraft XV144).  Anyway after connecting it, I made 2 nice contacts on 20 meter CW, one in Michigan and the other in Wisconsin.  I use an IDIOM Press K5 keyer since even though the 1500 works great as is,  I have been using the K5 with all my radios since I am familiar with it's functions.  In the field however, the Flex CWX feature will be handy, especially in contests.  My Flex 5000A may become jealous however unless I share time with it.

We suffer from kleptomania and sometimes have to take something for it.
