I am also curious about the direct connection to a Tokyo Hy Power HL-1.2Kfx. I assume by direct connect, you are only using a coax connection between the antenna connections from the FLX 5000 and the THP, with no connections to the STBY or ALC on the THP?

Just picked up a Flex 5000 and I am using my Commander HF-2500 with a 704 Relay between them. I am using the Amp Relay 1 connection on the Flex to the 704 and then to the amp. Works Great !

Glad to hear your 5000 is working well,

If people would just read what Flex says to do in connecting to amps, there would be little problems.

The 5000 must have a buffer between the Flex and the amp since the 5000 uses soft keying, it can be damaged from to much current. The Flex 3000 on the other hand does not need a buffer as it uses a hard wired relay and can stand a fair voltage.

Not using a buffer is just dumb, for the little cost of a buffer compared to a high end radio that cost this much,,a no brainier?
