I shut down PowerSDR earlier today and received a Windows error message. I did not copy the details. I think it was related to .NET Framework? I restarted Windows then started PowerSDR. During the PowerSDR initialization, a window poped up with the following message.Fatal Error String was not recognized as a valid Boolean. at System.Boolean.Parse(String value) at PowerSDR.Setup.GetOptions() at PowerSDR.Setup..ctor(Console c) at PowerSDR.Console.InitConsole() at PowerSDR.Console..ctor(String[] args) at PowerSDR.Console.Main(String[] args) I closed the message box and PowerSDR shut down. Since I cannot start PowerSDR, I'm off-the-air until this is resolved.
Do I have a Windows XP Pro operating system issue, PowerSDR issue, or radio hardware issue?
Equipment Flex 5000A with firmware V1.3.0.8
PowerSDR V1.18.3 Flex Firewire Driver V3.4.2.6300 VAC V4.09 ================================== Issue Solved I un-installed PowerSDR 1.18.3 and re-installed same. Same issue. I un-installed PowerSDR and deleted the folder "C:\program files\FlexRadio Systems". Installed PowerSDR 1.18.3. All is well.

Hi
I have the same issue on powerSDR-IQ
Fatal Error
String was not recognized as a valid Boolean.
at System.Boolean.Parse(String value)
at PowerSDR.Setup.GetOptions()
at PowerSDR.Setup..ctor(Console c)
at PowerSDR.Console.InitConsole()
at PowerSDR.Console..ctor(String[] args)
at PowerSDR.Console.Main(String[] args) ....
....
Even if i remove the folder "C:\program files\FlexRadio Systems" , the issue is still there - what to do ?
I tried to re-install .NETframework 3.5 SP1, but no improvement
Thanks for your help

Sounds like it could be a problem in the database.. Go to 1.18.3 PowerSDR install directory and rename or delete command.xml
Then try again to start PSDR.. Might be some bad data saved the last time it ran successfully.

That's right - I have deleted the database and re-installed it- it is ok, now
Now, I make a copy after each modification, as error are usual with this softaware ! Thanks & 73 fr F6EHP

This fatal error thing seems to be getting around. It just started doing it to me using the latest 1.18.5 SDR and will try the aforementioned fix in the database. I thought my PC went bananas and almost recovered it but remember Tim saying, "Check the reflector and forums first". I just joined the reflector since there are many instances there concerning this fatal error.

They are not "usual" errors. Something abnormal in the shut down process probably caused the data corruption in the DB.
None of the errors listed on this thread are .NET 3.5 errors; they are PowerSDR initialization errors reading data from the database.

| Here is the entire Fatal Error report that pops up: X resourceat SerialPorts.Serial Stream.ctor(String resource, Int32 baudRate, Parity parity, Int32 dataBits, StopBits stopbits, Int32 readTimeout, Int32 write Timeout, Handshake handshake, Boolean dtrEnable, Boolean rtsEnable, Bollean discardNull, Byte parityReplace) at SerialPorts,SerialPort.Open() at SDRSerialSupportII.SDRSerialPort.Create(Boolean bit_bang_only) at PowerSdr.Console.set_CATEnabled(Bollean value) at PowerSDR.Setup.initCATandPTTprops() at PowerSDR.Console.InitConsole() at PowerSDR.Console..ctor(String[] args) at PowerSDR.Console.Main(String[] args) Just came back to edit my post after 2 hours with no luck getting SDR to work. When running as administrator, it brings up the setup wizard and says it has been successfully repaired and says Welcome to the Setup Mode and a Flex Phone number. When double clicking on the newly installed ICON, it gets to the last 2 seconds and pops up the fatal error as usual. I deleted everything I could find concerning old instances of SDR. This has to be one of my most difficult problems to straighten out and am missing out on some good DX. I weill try to call Flex in the morning but can never get ahold of anyone and levae my message and number.

Are you importing databases?
What radio hardware are you using?
This error indicates you have a serial port initialization failure. It can't open a serial port you have defined in the database.

Hi Tim, I have no serial ports to define and use Com0Com for CAT control using MIXw and VAC4.09 for vitual audio. There is no hardware other than my key, USB speakers and wired keyboard/mouse.

Of course you have com ports defined. What do you think Com0Com is doing? It creates virtual com ports. It makes no difference to the software if they are virtual or physical. There is an abstraction layer between hardware and software anyway.
You are not cleaning things out completely if you are repairing an installation.
Do this procedure exactly.
1.) Go to the Control Panel and open up Add and Remove programs.
2.) find all instances of PowerSDR and remove them. Everyone.
3.) Delete the folder c:\Program Files\FlexRadio Systems
4.) Download PowerSDR v1.18.5 from the web site and install it
5.) After it installs, run PowerSDR and it should run Windom to create the windom file, create a new database, transfer the data from the radio's EEPROM (I am assuming you are using a FLEX-x000, you never answered that question) to the database and start PowerSDR.
It should not fail to start.
Make a copy of this database, as it is a good one and you can use it if you get into this problem again.
