I am considering purchase of a Flex 3000. I have a Dell pc dual core pentium with 4.0 gig of memory and win vista. Is it true that it is a nightmare to set up the 3000 with a Dell? Also, how do you connect a standard mic to the "phone jack" mic connector on the 3000??

I can't answer your question about the Dell computers as I do not use one.  The front panel of the 3000 is a RJ-45 (not a telephone RJ-11) jack.  There is a wiring diagram of this jack in the Flex-3000 Quick Start Guide and in the manual.  You may want to download and review those before you make your purchase.  The Flex-3000 is set up to use mics wired for Yaesu transceivers.  I use a Heil Goldline mic with the RJ-45 to 8-pin adapter that you can get from Flex or from most ham radio retailers.  You could also wire your own based on the diagram in the manual and the one supplied with your microphone.

Hope that I am not too late with this response, but you can also use a typical computer headset which includes an electret mic. I have done this using the RJ-45 input on the F3K. I can send pix and schematics if you send me a private message.
