| I'm considering the purchase of a Flex and would like some input on using the Flex on AM. I'm most interested in the 3000, but still have an open mind. I've read over the post related to using the radio on AM and think I understand the big picture. I know the 5000 or 1000 would be best on AM, but would like some input on using the 3000 on AM. I understand the maximum bandwidth will be 7.2Khz AM using the 3000, and the 5000 or 1000 can go much wider.. It seems that for limited, occasional use 7.2Kz should be fine, espescially if care was taken to make 7.2Khz sound the best you could. I have used the Icom IC-756 pro II ( not sure what the maximum tx bandwidth on it was) with acceptable results. I listen a-lot in the AM window and having a "wide" signal isn't always the key to having good sounding audio. So I'm hoping to open up the discussion on this observation.. Am I missing something? I really like the simplicity of the 3000 and my primary operation is SSB. Most of that operation is on 6 meters at this point..So my primary focus is not AM, but I do like to check in the groups occasionally. I also have a pw1 that I wound be interfacing to the Flex.. Thanks in advance for any input..

I have used a Flex 3000 on our local 6M AM net. The first time I did so I got unsoliticed "rave" reviews on how good my audio sounded. The radio I usually use on this net is an old HeathKit tube rig. Everyone thought the Flex sounded much better, and in fact was the best of all the rigs being used by the various operators on the net that day. I hope that this information is helpful to you. -- Carl

| Thanks Carl, Yes, that does help! I was beginning to think I wouldn't get an answer While it seemed logical technically, I wanted a "first hand" confirmation.
