Only a week ago I was having a ball with my 5000A working a lot of DX along with digital modes etc. and in the last 2 months have worked over 2,000 stations working contests.  Then I received my Windows 7 update from Microsoft and installed it.  No way could I get SDR to function in Windows 7.  It is rather confusing to decide whether to use the new Firmware which has the date as it's name such as 200xxx and the associated Firewire.  I gave up on Windows 7 and reverted back to Windows Vista.  Have spent hours each day last week trying to get things to work and could not get ahold of Flex support.  Now I am trying to load the older Firmware 1.3.08 and Firewire 3.5.0.7171 which is a blank wall also.  The Blue Global Settings panel shows:  Vendor 1c2d, product 1, SDK 3.4.0.5254.  96KHZ and 1024 buffer.  I need to decide whether to give up and cancel my V/U transverter and Flex 1500 orders if I am unable to use this PC any longer.  It is so frustrating to have $4,000 tied up in a radio and computer and it may just sit here.  Perhaps I am too old to continue with this modern stuff but after getting VAC, Com0Com, my last SDR operations working not to mention a lot of shopping for a good QUAD 4 computer, I really don't want to quit just yet.  Thanks,  AL  K3ROJ

Al,
I'm not sure exactly where your hung up with the Firmware/Flex driver issue... A couple of things... First if the Flexdriver is loaded correctly you should get the 'chimes' when you turn on the F5K.. The Global setting> info should show 3.5.0.7171...
With 3.5.0.7171 the firmware is loaded from the driver panels 'Firmware loader'.. ( with the 3.4.0.5254 flex driver the firmware is loaded by executing the firmware download.)
If you have the 3.4.0.5254 driver running then you should load the 1.3.0.6 firmware and run 1.18.3 PSDR
If you have the 3.5.0.7171 driver running then you should load the 1.3.0.8 firmware using the driver's 'Firmware loader' and run 1.18.3 PSDR. (make sure you have the latest firmware download 12/13/09 )
If you have the 3.5.0.7171 driver running and wish to run the SVN PSDR's then you will need to load the 2.0.0.4 firmware with the driver's 'Firmware loader'...

When loading new Flex drivers be sure to completely unload the old driver first and reboot the PC with the F5K off.

On Win 7 I found it necessary to have driver signing turned off and use 'Run as administrator' to install the driver even though I was logged in as administrator.

Don't know if that helps or not...

Hi AL, and thanks for the encouragement to continue on.  Apparently my onboard Firewire wasn't functioning right since this morning (Sunday Jan 31) when Best Buy opened it's doors, I went in and bought a Dynex 1394 PCI Host Adadpter card DX-FC103 since I had read about OHCI device driver problems (Still Greek to me).  Luckily I had experience installing my graphics card to have two monitors and knew my way around the PCI slots etc.  I installed it and after booting saw a popup saying it found software for it.  With my fingers crossed, I flashed the 5000A with Firmware 1.3.0.8, rebooted and then ran 3.4.0.5234 firewire (with the 5000A off).  Rebooted after turning the 5000A on and ran SDR 1.18.3  To my amazement, it went through it's routine and soon there it was, a working console after hitting Start.   On the Global panel it says: Running Vendor 1c2d, Product 1, SDK 3.4.0.5234, Safe level 1, SDR 1.18.3 with 512 buffer/96000 sample rate.  My device driver now says: AGERE OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394.  Was able to work several stations on 15 meter CW since it was open into Europe and also on 17 meters.  Sorry about sounding so rough in my post and my wife always tells me, think before you speak.  This Forum has saved me a lot of grief.  73's  AL  K3ROJ
